The Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha, Pune chose AVA to design detailed studio, workrooms and lab requirements of the fashion school. The school imparts degree and diploma courses in Fashion Technology and has a tie-up with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Delhi. The plan is based on the courtyard concept, with the courtyard acting as light well and lungs for the structure. There are two courtyards, the main courtyard is an interaction space for the students, and the second one is a display area for the clothes and accessories made by the students.
The building has a strong form and bold colours, representing the school of an art form. The entrance plaza also is created as a gathering place for students. The School Of Fashion Technology, Pune is a project for which we have received a lot of appreciation. After receiving this assignment through a competition, we were rewarded by the H.O.D., Ms. Manju Hundekar with words of appreciation saying, “The architect has not used an inch more not an inch less in this project and I am very happy about how my institute has materialized in its form.” Two floors were built initially and two more floors and a lift added later as phase II.
