Chandawarkar House
The interiors of this private house for Mr. Chandavarkar were conceptualized in the Peshwa style of Indian interior design. The teak wood double leaf main entrance door has an intricate carving and large decorative brass handles. Upon entering the house, a decorative wall forms the canvas for a god statue positioned as the centre piece. The floor inlay adds emphasis to this setting.
The furniture on the inside follows the same theme with a wooden frame and delicately carved patterns in the sofa backrests and legs. The decorative wooden columns with an arch and chandelier all unify the theme.
The puja space has a diamond wooden mesh door with niches for ten idols in on either side of the frame. These idols not only have religious significance to the space but also aesthetically balance the indoor frame.
All bedrooms have wooden headboards and carved wooden bed pedestals for the mattresses to rest on. The bed, headboard and side tables all form one cohesive unit. All wardrobes a sliding with a simple diagonal wooden pattern on the front panel. Blinds, decorative lights and artwork complete the ambience.
